B.C. Lions: Touchdown in Kelowna

KELOWNA – The B.C. Lions were looking to build from their 0-2 deficit heading into

week 4 against the Calgary Stampeders. However, desperate to come out on top, the

Stampeders dominated the game on Saturday afternoon, winning 41-33. In the end, it

was self-inflicted wounds for the Lions that determined the final result.

CALGARY ESTABLISHING CONTROL

Late first-half Calgary touchdowns; the turning point came after the three-minute

warning in the first half. Delta-born and Stamps wide receiver Jalen Philpot led an 82-

yard scoring drive with less than 90 seconds in the second quarter. On the following

kickoff, Jackson Somback forced a fumble from Lions Silas Bolden, and Ben Labrosse

recovered.

Calgary quarterback Vernon Adams Jr. passed 29 yards and ran for three more,

marching the Stampeders back into the red zone. Quincy Vaughn then wrapped up the

half with a one-yard touchdown, giving Calgary a 24-14 halftime lead.

LATE MINUTE LIONS PUSH

B.C. put up a valiant fight, but after Vaughn’s touchdown, the Lions never recovered.

The Lions managed to put up 200 offensive yards more in total than the Stamps,

making it close with two late touchdowns in the fourth quarter.

Nathan Rourke finished the game connecting 32 of 42 passing attempts for 462 yards

and three touchdowns through the air. He also caught one trick pass from Keon

Hatcher, which resulted in a 21-yard gain.

HISTORY IN KELOWNA

The opening weekend of Touchdown Kelowna was undoubtedly a success; not even a

short spat of rain stopped the orange-clad Lions fans enjoying the evening festivities. It

was a sell-out crowd of 19,108 in the Apple Bowl, mostly home team supporters.

The Lions will remain in Kelowna for the week before hosting the Edmonton Elks on

Saturday, July 4th . Touchdown will be at 4:00 P.M. Pacific Time.
