The Abbotsford Canucks took on the Calgary Wranglers on October 24, 2026. This was their second meet up of the regular season. The teams met up before the season began with back to back pre-season games. Abbotsford took those games, however, Calgary came out hot in the regular season taking both games at home.

Calgary is currently sitting at second in the Pacific Division, whereas Abbotsford is sitting in eighth. Abbotsford is coming off a successful home opening weekend where they swept the Coachella Valley Firebirds.

Anri Ravinskis and Austin Brimmer made their home ice debut for the season. While Bennett Schimek and Braeden Cootes were not in the lineup.

Both teams were equally matched throughout the first period going 1-for-1 on the penalty kill. Abbotsford’s penalty kill has significantly improved from last season. Their penalty kill is much more confident this season and they feel more focused.

Both teams struggled to keep the puck calm while in the offense and the game felt a little panicked. There were a number of missed passes and turnovers while driving the puck down the ice.

The puck settled in the second and despite an early goal on the power play by Calgary’s Rory Kerins, Abbotsford continued to battle hard. Last season Abbotsford struggled to come back when down, however, a switch in game play and mentality has greatly impacted their style of game.

They had a number of close calls half way through the period but couldn’t get the puck in the net. Both teams seemed equally matched throughout the second, despite the goal.

Nikita Tolopilo made two incredible saves to start off the third period. Sawyer Mynio tied the game at 2:54, with the assist from Riley Patterson and Ravinskis. This was Mynio’s first goal of the season.

When Mynio was asked about what he liked about the game tonight he stated; “I think sticking with our plan. Obviously the first and second wasn’t really our game, but you know, we know how we play and how we played the last four games. I think we’ve won,so just sticking with it, and it was a good third.”

Abbotsford found their groove in the third, slowing down their game, and setting up plays. Despite two penalties Abbotsford managed to defend their zone well, and Jacob Quillan came close to a short handed goal.

Ty Mueller broke the tie at 12:52, with the assist from Ben Berard and Mynio. The game began to shift into Abbotsford’s favour.

Cole Clayton got his first goal of the season at 16:49 with the assist from Jacob Quillan, securing the Abbotsford 3-1 victory.

The Abbotsford Canucks and Calgary Wranglers are back in action tomorrow October 25 at 3 pm, at Rogers Forum, with their Halloween game.
