Abbotsford Canucks get second series sweep at home

The Abbotsford Canucks were coming off a 3-1 victory against the Calgary Wranglers. After a slow start to the game and a Calgary lead, Abbotsford dominated in the third period with 3 unanswered goals. After last night's win they have tied last year's win streak at four, and looked to continue.
Nikita Tolopilo started in net again tonight after commanding the crease in last night’s game. He made an incredible save early in the first after Calgary had a breakaway.
Though the game started much the same as the night before with no goals in the first, there was a sense of calm in game play. The puck was settled and the game did not have the frantic energy it did the game prior. Though there were some turnovers that led to some close calls, they managed to settle and continue on.
Similar to yesterday Calgary scored first in the second, however, Abbotsford answered back quickly. Jacob Quillan got the tying goal at 1:01 with the assist from Kole Lind and Trey Fix-Wolansky.
However, Calgary’s William Strömgren broke the tie at 10:33 in the second to put them ahead.
Despite Abbotsford getting a number of power plays, Calgary’s penalty kill kept them on lock and Abbotsford didn’t even look like they had the man advantage.
Abbotsford’s penalty kill was also tested and they were able to keep the game at the one goal differential. Despite being down by one Abbotsford continued to battle hard to tie the game back up.
Last season the third period held a lot of struggles for Abbotsford, but this season it looks as though they have found their groove.
Trey Fix-Wolansky scored the tying goal at 1:50 into the third, with the assist from Tim Rego and Joe Arntsen.
The game looked to be headed towards overtime but Jacob Quillan got his second goal of the night at 17:54 to break the tie and get Abbotsford’s first lead of the game. The goal was assisted by Fix-Wolansky.
Quillan would go on to get the final goal of the game on an empty net and secure a hat-trick at 19:43, with the assist from Cole Clayton.
Quillan talked to the media after the game and was asked about how it is playing with someone like Fix-Wolansky, he stated; “He’s a really good player. You know, he can make plays and then he can also rip the puck.”
Both players had incredible games between goals and assists, which helped lead Abbotsford to their second sweep of the season, and their fifth win.
The Abbotsford Canucks go on the road to play against the San Jose Barracuda on Wednesday, and the Bakersfield Condors on Friday October 30. They are back at Rogers Forum on November 6, to face off against the Ontario Reign.
