Vancouver Canadians rally back to split series against Spokane Indians

July 28 marked the Vancouver Canadians return to The Nat after the All-Star break and a road series. While on the road the Canadians collected 5 wins out of 9 games played. 

On Tuesday, 11 new players were added to the roster, when the Canadians took on the Spokane Indians. The game was also filled with furry fans as dogs graced The Nat for their Dog Days of Summer event. 

The first inning went scoreless for both teams. The second inning saw some action with Jean Joseph hitting a home run on his first at bat as a Canadian. 

The third inning remained 1-0, but Peyton Williams secured the second home run of the game in the bottom of the fourth to put the Canadians up 2-0 going into the fifth inning. The Canadians secured another run in the bottom of the fifth. 

The Indians got their first run of the game in the top of the sixth. However, the Canadians secured 5 walked in runs through a bases loaded situation. Those would be the final runs of the game. 

The Canadians started the series strong with an 8-1 win. Wednesday’s game also went to the Canadians with a 5-3 victory. However, the Indians fought back on Thursday and Friday securing a 9-7 win and a 7-5 win as the game went into extra innings. 

Saturday’s game was country night and the Canadians looked to pull ahead in the series. However, the Indians got the first run of the game in the top of the first.

The Indians continued to lock in in the second inning with a grand slam to put the game 5-0 going into the third inning. 

The Indians kept that energy going into the top of the fourth where they would score another 4 runs, these were the last runs they would score in the game. 

The Canadians finally got a run on the board in the bottom of the fifth, however, they would not be able to come back despite making a defensive comeback to keep the Indians at 9 runs for the remaining 5 innings. 

The game would end 9-1 for the Indians, giving them the series lead going into the final game of the series. 

The Canadians looked to split the series on Sunday. Through a number of defensive plays and offensive drive the Canadians took the game 14-0. 

The Vancouver Canadians are back at The Nat on August 11, at 7 PM, to take on the Tri-City Dust Devils.
